Advantages of an Instant Hot Water Tap

Traditionally we all either turn on the immersion or the heating system to heat it up water however doing this has three fundamental flaws

1: It takes a long time for the water to heat up(generally about 30 minutes for a 55 litre immersion) and this can be particularly frustrating especially when you are in a hurry.

2: Very often we turn on the heating system or immersion and heat a full tank of hot water when we only need to use a few litres for washing dishes or cleaning vegetables when cooking. The rest of the heated water is adding unnecessarily to your energy bill.

3: Because the water has a long way to travel from the boiler to the tap a lot of cold water is often wasted whilst you wait for the hot water to come through to the kitchen sink. With water charges on the way we can’t afford to continue to do this.

Typical Saving By Installing the Instant Electric Hot Water Tap

Using a quite conservative estimate the Instant Electric Hot Water Tap is 70% cheaper than using an immersion to heat water.

Taking current energy rates in Ireland (about 19 cent per Kwh) it would cost around 65 cent every time you heat up a 55 litre immersion and it will take 30 minutes or more for it to heat up.

The Instant Hot Water Tap takes around 3 to 5 seconds to heat the water and will add only about 1 cent to your energy bill.

The estimated pay back time for this product is about 12 months for a typical family of four.

  1. Hi im just lookin to know is the water delivered by tap hot enough to make tea or coffee…!?

    1. The maximum heat the water will get to from this tap is 60- 65 degree celcius.

This is hot even to clean greasy pots and pans but not to instantly make a cup of tea or coffee from.

Boiling point is 100 degrees. Kooker do a range of instant boiling water taps but they tend to cost in the region of 1,400 euro.

Whilst our taps won’t produce boiling water it will go a long way towards quickening the process of boiling your kettle.

    2. tapmagic.ie offer a product like the one you are looking for. never tired so cannot vouch for reliability or functionality, but they sell it…

      1. Thank you for getting in touch,

We don’t normally allow posts designed to advertise companies that sell similar products but I do think it is quite important to do so on this occasion.

The ETH10 Instant Hot Water Tap which we sell and the product Tap Magic sell are quite different.

Indeed to be quite frank about it we have actually had customers who have come to us to order a tap after returning a tap they received from the company in question.

If you are getting in touch with them be sure to ask them where the cable runs from the tap.

The cable on our taps run out the bottom and thus causes no problems when installing it.

If the cable was to run out the side of the tap it might not be the most practical thing in the world to install.

Ask plenty of questions before you order is my advise.

  2. Hi,
Is this tap suitable for mains pressure or tank fed?

I presume it is ok for both.

What’s the max and min water pressure it needs.

    Thanks,
    R

  3. It’s a cold water pipe coming in to the building (basically the well pumps water into 2000 l container up the hill and it’s gravity fed into the building then through one cold water pipe) – the pressure is decent, it runs an electric shower sufficiently. Still wouldn’t work or just not recommended? Any alternatives? Thank you.

    1. Hi Lea,
In hindsight this will probably work ok for you.
As long as the pressure is 0.5 bar plus. The tap should be ok to install. Given that it is a 2000 litre tank it should give enough pressure. Check the pressure first is the best advice we could give you on it.

  4. Is there any provision for connecting the existing hot water supply to the tap or is this an extra tap.

    1. Hi Finbarr,
The instant hot water tap needs to be connected to your cold water supply only. Some customers do install it as a second tap on sink. In this case the existing tap can remain connected to the hot water supply and the cold to the new instant hot water tap.

  5. I have a hot and cold feed connected to a single Gooseneck tap. I would like to keep this intact and take a spur from my mains inlet to install Tapmagic as a separate unit on my sink ! How am I fixed to do this !!!
    Regards; Peter

    1. Yes Peter, This is possible. You could just connect the cold supply to your Electric tap and hot supply to the gooseneck tap or get an adaptor so that the cold supply can run to both taps. What is important is that the hot water supply is not connected to the Electric tap any or set of combinations is fine.
Please note we well Watersave taps and not the Tapmagic brand.

    1. Just like a electric kettle hard water will impact negatively on the lifespan of the element within the tap.
The product does come with a 1 year guarantee but the build up of lime will eventually blow the element.
The element itself can be replaced.
It is is well worthwhile considering to treat your hard water though as it is not only shortening the lifespan of your electrical appliances but also adding to your energy bills.

  6. Can this be fitted in an apartment? There is a double tank in the press on the top is the cold and the bottom the hot.

    1. Hi Josephine,
You can of course fit the tap in an apartment. Generally it is just a case of removing the old tap and replacing it with the instant hot water tap.
The hot water supply is then sealed off underneath the sink with a brass cap and the instant hot water tap is connected to the cold water only.

  7. We are considering fitting both styles your taps to the kitchen & the wetroom sinks in a granny flat project; does the kitchen sink option provide cold water sufficient for washing salads etc – it’s not always hot water that is required at a kitchen sink, of course.Likewise, does the bathroom tap allow enough cold water for teeth cleaning etc?
    ZG

    1. Both cold and hot water can run from both types of taps. The tap is connected to the cold mains. When you turn the lever to the right you get cold water. Pull lever left you get hot water.

    1. When you lock the temperature and you want to unlock it you just touch the + and – at the same time and hold for 10 seconds. The temperature key will unlock and then you can adjust temperature again.

  8. Is this hot water tap suitable for a wash hand basin in a public bathroom ?

    1. Hi Jennifer,
I couldnt really recommend these for a public bathroom as unfortunately you would have customers that would leave the tap running. In such a situation it could add hugely to energy bills. It is best to always have push taps in public bathrooms so they automatically switch off after use.
